BENEFITS:

To feel and perform your best, day after day, your protein needs must be met. Doing so is easy with Hammer Nutrition’s Whey Protein, which contains 100% whey protein isolate, the most bioavailable protein on the planet. Hammer’s Whey Protein is super pure—free of lactose, fat, gluten, and added sugar, and is derived from US-raised, grass-fed, hormone-, and antibiotic-free cows. A whopping six grams of the multibeneficial amino acid, L-glutamine, are added for additional health benefits.

Mix 1 scoop to 8-12 ounce of water.

Ingredient Breakdown:

Whey Protein Isolate – The most bioavailable of all protein sources, it contains the highest percentage of the nine essential amino acids (EAA)—those that the body does not manufacture and must obtain from dietary sources. Whey is also high in the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA’s) that are needed for tissue repair and immune system support. Our grass-fed Whey Isolate is approximately 90% protein, and 99% lactose free.

L-Glutamine – The most abundant amino acid found in muscles, L-glutamine is essential for a multitude of recovery processes but is rapidly depleted during intense exercise. Its role in glycogen synthesis (carbohydrate storage) and the repair and rebuilding of muscle tissue are among its many important functions. It also contributes to growth hormone release, and is a key component for intestinal and immune system health. Low levels of L-glutamine have been shown to correlate with over-training syndrome.

Stevia – A natural, calorie-free sweeter derived from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana, a plant native to Central and South America. It does not affect blood sugar levels or contribute to tooth decay like sugar does.

The good outweigh the bad

Ok, so I am not a competitive athlete or anything but I use protein powder to supplement my everyday strength training workouts. What you have to understand about hammer whey is that it is LACKING several "junk" ingredients. I bought this in the chai flavor and it is not a strong flavor nor is it su...

This was the first protein powder I've tried. I've been using protein bars and recently decided to give this a try and see if it helps. I love that I'm no longer sore the day after work outs and that I started noticing changes the first week of use but the taste is almost unbearable! The smell is ni...

Q

What is the shelf life of Hammer Whey Protein? I have the same question about all the Hammer products I use. Hammer stamps the manufacturing date on the containers, but that information is essentially useless to me. In addition to Whey Protein I'd like to know the recommended shelf life ("use by" date) for Recoverite, Hammer Gel, PSA caps, your vitamin tablets, and several others. Sometimes you offer a small discount if I order 3 at once, but I'm never sure if I'd use them soon enough to make that a good idea.

Verified Reply - SteveHammer Whey Protein has a best by date of three (3) years from the manufacture (MFG) date. Here is all of the information found at the FAQ on the Hammer Nutrition website at https://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledge/faqs/products-best-by-manufacture-date Traditionally, supplements were labeled with an expiration, "Best by," or "Use by" date-usually four years from the time of manufacture in accordance with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) guidelines. However, the FDA's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines and regulations have been recently updated. Therefore, a number of Hammer Nutrition products now display a "Manufacture" date on the label (oftentimes listed as MFG). For example, a product manufactured on January 17, 2012 will display "MFG 011712." In addition, to make determining a Hammer Nutrition product's shelf life more convenient for our customers, as of August 16, 2012, we are also including a "Best by" date on gels and powders. The "Best by" date is the recommended date by which you should consume a product for best results. **** Hammer Gel has a "Best by" date of two (2) years from the time of manufacture. **** All Hammer Nutrition powdered fuels and Perpetuem Solids have a "Best by" date of three (3) years from the time of manufacture. **** Hammer Bars and Endurolytes Fizz will still list an expiration date on the label. For optimal quality and freshness, these products should be used/consumed prior to the expiration date, which is within the following time frames from the manufacture date: Hammer Bars -- 18 months (produced after 1/1/13) Endurolytes Fizz -- two (2) years Hammer Nutrition supplements will list a "Manufacture" date on the label, shown as MFG. One should have no concern regarding the quality or freshness of our supplements, as long as the product has not aged more than four years since the MFG date shown on the bottle or label (making sure that products avoid excessive heat and/or sunlight).
Q

What is the source of the milk in this product?

Asked by Nelson
Verified Reply - SteveThe whey protein isolate we use in Hammer Whey Protein and Recoverite is derived from US-raised grass-fed, hormone-free and antibiotic-free cows.
Q

do you know how much BCAAs are contained in a serving?

Asked by RalphD
Verified Reply - SteveEach scoop of Hammer Whey Protein contains 1649 mg of L-Leucine, 952 mg of L-Isoleucine, and 782 mg of L-Valine, a total of 3,383 mg of BCAAs.
Q

does the vanilla whey protein isolate cause acne breakouts?

Asked by ced
Verified Reply - SteveIt has been theorized that whey protein may (key word "may") cause an acne breakout in a small percentage of individuals. The theory is that because whey increases the production of a hormone called insulin-like growth factor 1, or IGF-1 (which is a good thing), that can potentially cause an acne breakout in some people. The limited research on this topic suggests that whey protein concentrate--because it still contains a fair amount of lactose and fat (30% or more)--is a more likely culprit than whey protein isolate, which is virtually lactose- and fat-free. We use whey protein isolate in Hammer Whey Protein and in Recoverite.
Q

After an ultra-long-distance bike ride, is it wise to take a single-serving packet of Recoverite AND a single-serving packet of whey protein? If so, what should the time spacing be between the two?

Asked by Long-distance cyclist
Verified Reply - SteveWhile it is totally fine and acceptable to add a packet of Hammer Whey to a serving of Recoverite, it's really not crucially important. This is because most people will have a protein-containing meal within a 2-hour period after they complete their workout or race. If this is not possible, it's actually better to have TWO servings of Recoverite after a super-lengthy workout or race. The body will definitely use the extra carbs (66 grams total) for replenishing muscle glycogen stores, and the protein donation (20 grams) will be completely sufficient for kick-starting the muscle tissue rebuilding process. After an ultra-long workout or race, having one serving of Hammer Whey, mixed in water only and consumed just prior to bed, will yield tremendous results. The body receives a generous donation of amino acids, which it will use to help with the muscle tissue rebuilding/immune system supporting processes, and the 6 grams of glutamine will help maximize human growth hormone release, which provides numerous benefits for both recovery and overall health.
Q

Can I mix this product ahead of time, for an hour strength workout, to drink immediately after?

Asked by sillyhope
Verified Reply - SteveWe do not recommend mixing Hammer Whey ahead of time. The reason is because of the glutamine that we add to the product, a hefty 6 grams per serving. While glutamine has hundreds of benefits attached to it, it is not the most stable substance once mixed in solution, and some of those benefits will be diminished as a result. For best results, mix your bottle of Whey Protein shortly before you drink it. Note: this would also apply to Recoverite as well, as it too contains a sizable amount of glutamine in each serving.
Q

How many grams of L-glutamine are in one serving of Hammer Whey?

Asked by Paul D.
Verified Reply - SteveThere are six (6) grams of l-glutamine (aka "glutamine") in each serving of Hammer Whey.
Q

Is this product kosher?

Asked by mark
Verified Reply - Hammer SteveThe Chicago Rabbinical Council (cRc) has Kosher Dairy Certified both Recoverite and Hammer Whey under the Kashruth Certification.
Q

Serving size is 26g but there is only 18g of protein in that serving. What makes up the 8g? I'm just curious because in the ingredients there's only whey (for the unflavored).

Asked by Anthony
Verified Reply - Hammer SteveThere are 6 grams of glutamine added to each serving, so that will bring the total up to 24 grams. The remaining couple of grams are from the sunflower lecithin, which is used to prevent clumping when the whey is dried, and from the trace amounts of carbohydrates and fat that still remain in the protein after the filtration processes have been complete. Note that when there is less than 1/2 gram (500 mg) in a serving, the label will show 0 (zero) grams.
Q

Do you make this product without stevia or other sweeteners? Stevia just leaves such a terrible taste.

Asked by CD
Verified Reply - Hammer SteveThere is an unflavored version of Hammer Whey Protein that does not contain stevia. The flavored versions contain a small amount of stevia (it's the last ingredient on the label list), which helps take the edge off of what many people consider to be a not-so-great taste of plain whey protein isolate.
