Additional Information
INGREDIENT BREAKDOWN:
Maltodextrin – A high-glycemic index (GI) complex carbohydrate, ideal for providing fast-acting, long-lasting energy during exercise.
Isolated Soy Protein – A dry powder food ingredient that has been separated or isolated from the other components of the soybean, making it 90 to 95 percent protein, and nearly carbohydrate- and fat-free.
Energy Smart® (Grape Juice, Rice Dextrin) – This all-natural, low-sugar sweetener plays an important role in Hammer Gel’s delicious flavor while contributing minimally to the overall carbohydrate content. Energy Smart® is certified non-GMO, gluten-free, and allergen-free.
Soy Lecithin – The extract from soybean oil, lecithin is an easily digestible source of healthful fat. This helps create a feeling of satiety and also supports the body’s natural fat-burning capabilities.
Sodium (Tribasic) Phosphate – This compound enhances the functioning of all three of the body’s ATP-producing energy systems—the short-term ATP-CP system, the medium-term lactic acid system, and the long-term oxygen/aerobic system.
A primary benefit of sodium (tribasic) phosphate is its ability to buffer blood acidity and help maintain a more ideal acid-alkaline balance by neutralizing excess hydrogen ions within the muscle cell. Effectively buffering lactic acid extends energy production within this system. This nutrient also increases 2,3 diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG). This compound, found in red blood cells helps release oxygen from hemoglobin into the muscle cells. An increase in 2,3-DPG will improve the availability of oxygen to working muscles during exercise.
L-Carnosine – This dipeptide (a combination of two amino acids) L-carnosine is a potent lactic acid buffer. It also offers antioxidant support.
L-Carnitine Tartrate – L-Carnitine Tartrate is a compound containing L-carnitine chelated (“bonded”) to L-tartrate, which is a salt of tartaric acid. L-carnitine is the key nutrient involved in the shuttling of fatty acids into the cell for energy production. Tartrate is a potent antioxidant.
Choline Bitartrate - A type of B-complex vitamin that helps with efficient use of body fat stores as energy. Choline bitartrate also supports enhanced cognition, learning, and memory.
Stevia – A natural, calorie-free sweeter derived from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana, a plant native to Central and South America. It does not affect blood sugar levels or contribute to tooth decay like sugar does.
Chromium Polynicotinate – This trace mineral helps regulate blood sugar and plays a vital role in energy production.

Game changer at long distances
Rated 5 out of 5 starsBefore discovering Perpetuem I didn't handle fueling well, trying to figure out what my stomach could handle and when. My 100 mile cycling feats weren't going well, slow times, too much resting, feeling uncomfortable made cycling long distances not fun. Enter Perpetuem, and life changed, I pretty much bypass Aid stations and drink my chocolate Perpetuem paste ( mixed so I have 6 hrs of fuel in one bottle.) Plenty of carbs and balanced to keep me going and going.

Does Perpetuem contain animal products? (Is it suitable for vegetarians and/or vegans?)
- Asked by John
- Verified Reply - SteveThere are no animal products in Perpetuem. It is 100% suitable for consumption by vegetarians/vegans.
- Q
Is the soy protein in Perpeteum non-gmo?
- Asked by Cyclingsilly
- Verified Reply - SteveThe soy protein isolate used in Perpetuem is GMO-free.
- Q
I know all your products have a best used after 3 years of manufacture, but what is the best used once opened????
- Asked by Judy
- Verified Reply - SteveThe "best buy" date that extends from the manufacture date (listed as "MFG") is the length of time the product will retain maximal potency once opened. Be sure to store the product away from direct sunlight, moisture, and excess heat, and it will be completely potent for 3 years, probably even more.

I am looking for clarification on the usage instructions for Perpetuem. I have read the product page usage instructions and the Q&A which state Perpetuem can be used as a pre-race/training meal and that it should be taken 3 hours before the race/training activity. But in this link (https://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledge/advanced-knowledge/the-hammer-nutrition-fuels/) there is a "Product Application Quick Reference Chart" which also has a check-mark on the column labeled "10 minutes prior to exercise". This past weekend on a Spartan Ultra race I used Perpetuem for the first time after the 1st (of 2) 15 mile loops and I felt great. So, this coming weekend I am running the NYC Marathon and want to use Perpetuem as a pre-race meal, but I would like know if it would be better to fuel 3 hrs prior or use the "10 minutes prior" option? Or use both?
- Asked by George
- Verified Reply - SteveIf you have a comfortable 3+ hour time period where you can finish a pre-exercise/race meal, by all means go for it (Perpetuem is great for this, BTW). This will top off your liver glycogen stores nicely, while not negatively affecting how your body uses its finite stores of muscle glycogen. You definitely don't want to sacrifice sleep just to eat, it's totally unnecessary, so unless you happen to naturally get up that early, just stay in bed and enjoy the benefits of a full night's sleep. If you do not have that comfortable 3+ hour time frame, but still want to have a few calories before you start, it's better to have them no more than 10 minutes prior to the start. This allows you to squash any hunger pangs you may have, but consuming calories at this time will also not negatively affect how your body burns its muscle glycogen stores. The other option is simply to start the workout or race on an empty stomach (totally fine to do this) and to begin refueling after you feel comfortably warmed up... for most people that means 15-20 minutes or so after they begin. BOTTOM LINE: If you do have a small meal 3+ hours prior, having a little something 10 minutes prior is optional. You can do both, if desired, though that small calorie intake 10 minutes prior is really not necessary.
- Q
Can I make perpetuem into a gel and freeze overnight for use for the next day?
- Asked by Jared
- Verified Reply - SteveThis is 100% acceptable, and there will be no loss of potency in freezing mixed Perpetuem.
- Q
How long before a long run do I need to drink this?
- Asked by Sbecker517
- Verified Reply - SteveWhile Perpetuem is a "during exercise" fuel, it can also be used as a pre-exercise meal. Keep in mind, however, that Perpetuem and any other calories need to be consumed 3 hours prior to the start of exercise. This allows for complete digestion and puts your body in the ideal physiological state to use its limited stores of fuel (muscle glycogen) most most efficiently. - Q
Can perpetuem be mixed with electrolytes - in the same bottle?
- Asked by ERider
- Verified Reply - SteveYes, you can mix electrolytes with Perpetuem in the same bottle. Your best bet is to use Endurolytes Extreme Powder, which is so lightly flavored that you will not notice a flavor change in your bottles of Perpetuem. Endurolytes Fizz is another option, and, depending on what flavors of Fizz and Perpetuem you choose, you can come up with some interesting flavor combinations. We don't generally recommend opening capsules of Endurolytes or Endurolytes Extreme and emptying them into your bottles. The reason is because of the ginger root extract that is part of the formula. Though soothing to the stomach, ginger root contains a small amount of two compounds--zingerone and capsaicin--that can be irritating to soft tissue (lips, tongue, throat, etc.) when they touch them. This irritation effect/burning senstation will not be as strong when mixed in Perpetuem, as it would be if you simply opened the capsules and tried to swallow the contents, but it is still possible.
- Q
If I opened Perpetuem 2 years ago and have stored in in a cool, dry cupboard, would it still be safe to consume?
- Asked by Leslie
- Verified Reply - SteveYes, the product in your container of Perpetuem is completely acceptable for consumption. All Hammer Nutrition powdered fuels, including Perpetuem, have a "best by" date of three (3) years from the time of manufacture, which is listed as "MFG" on the container.
- Q
My bike rides last 2-3 hrs. (average)....Summer is very hot in Texas and winter o.k. What is the best product to use to prevent cramps and dehydration...?? Perpeuem or Heed...??
- Asked by Gama
- Verified Reply - SteveHEED would be your best option, with each serving containing the same amount of electrolytes as found in 1 capsule of Endurolytes. We generally recommend Endurolytes at the rate of 1 capsule for every 50-60 lbs. of body weight hourly, so depending on much HEED you use--and remember that each serving contains 100 calories (so don't overdo it on the calories)--that will determine if you need additional Endurolytes to fully satisfy your electrolyte requirements.
- Q
Why can't I get Perpetuem Chocolate or Latte without Stevia? I realize this is the new trendy non-sugar but it makes me ill. Besides, I'm usually burning well over 1500-2000 calories on a ride. Sugar is not an issue.
- Asked by scott
- Verified Reply - SteveStevia has no caloric value, so it plays no role in energy production. Instead, a small amount is used for sweetening purposes. Maltodextrin, a complex carbohydrate, is the primary source of caloric fuel in the product, along with a small amount of protein and healthy fat. Maltodextrin, while being an outstanding carbohydrate source for quick-acting, long-lasting energy (especially compared to sugar, which you definitely do not want), is quite bland, which is why a small amount of sweetener is beneficial. The Chocolate and Caffe Latte are flavors that are naturally a bit on the bitter side, which is why we use a small amount of stevia in them. They are also slightly acidic by nature, so the small amount of stevia that is added helps to make a better acid/alkaline balance. The Strawberry and Orange-Vanilla flavors, as well as the Plain/Unflavored versions of Perpetuem contain no stevia. In our opinion, stevia is far more than a "trendy non-sugar." It is the extract (steviosides) from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana, a plant native to subtropical and tropical Central and South America. Stevia's sweet taste, considered to be up to 300 times sweeter than sugar, means that minimal amounts are necessary to sweeten a product. Stevia is non-caloric and does not affect blood sugar levels, therefore it is safe for diabetics. Stevia may help to lower elevated blood pressure while not affecting people with normal blood pressure. Like xylitol, stevia does not support acid-producing bacteria responsible for tooth decay. Lastly, though you may be burning "X" amount of calories per hour, that has little-to-nothing to do with how many calories your body can accommodate. Put another way, while it's interesting to know how many calories you’re burning every hour during exercise, that amount isn’t really a factor in terms of how many calories your body can accept in return from your fuel donation. The goal of caloric intake is to consume the least amount necessary to maintain energy levels where you want them to be hour after hour. For the majority of athletes, this represents an intake of 120-200 calories per hour. And if you find that’s not quite enough calories, that’s an easy fix—you simply consume a few more.
