Fueling on Ultra 100 in Key West

Postby flipper67 » Wed May 12, 2010 8:03 am

OK, I have Perpetuem, Heed, Hammer Gel, Endurolytes, Premium Insurance, Race Cap, Mito, Anti Fatigue and Endurance Amino. What time schedule and how much of each?

Thanks
Phil

Hello Phil -

I would recommend that most of your calories come from Perpetuem - at least 2/3 to 3/4 of your total calorie intake should come from that fuel, though you could use it from beginning to end if you wanted to... that's perfectly acceptable. That said, if you want some variety in your fueling "menu" you can use HEED or Hammer Gel on occasion if you want to take a break from hourly consumption of Perpetuem.

The key thing to remember is that from ALL your calorie sources, you generally want to consume in the range of 240-280 calories an hour. If you're a lighter weight athlete you should consume less than that, and if you're a larger athlete you may be able to consume slightly more. In general, though, we suggest an intake of 240-280 calories per hour for the average-sized athlete (roughly 165 lbs... somewhere in that range).

Dosage suggestions for all of the fuels, based on body weight, can be found in the article "The Hammer Nutrition Fuels - What they are and how to use them" (http://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledg ... ge-section).

Your dosage of Endurolytes may change on an hourly basis but a good general starting point is one capsule for every 50-60 lbs of body weight. Start with that but if you feel a twinge of a cramp coming on, by all means take another dose right away and proceed to take a higher-than-what-you-started-with dose every hour from that point on.

The article "Epic Workout/Race Supplement Suggestions" (http://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledg ... ge-section) will give you the info you need regarding the dosing of the other supplements you've listed.

If you have any questions after reviewing the information in the articles, please post them and I'll be happy to help.

Sincerely -

Steve
