Seeking Advice from the Hammer Women Triathletes

Postby jmaisano » Mon Jun 07, 2010 7:52 pm

Steve,

My wife has gotten the bug to start training for her first triathlon and I think that's wonderful! I wanted to ask you and the Hammer women athletes where and how is the best way for her to get started with proper supplementation and training.

With all of the amazing people and wonderful experience on this forum I couldn't think of a better place for her to get good solid advice. She is a former athlete but has not taken part in any kind of endurance racing before.

Thank you in advance for all the guidance.

Respectfully

Joe

Hello Joe -

As far as supplements are concerned, I believe that all athletes - male or female - would benefit the most from the consistent use of the three Daily Essentials products: Premium Insurance Caps, Race Caps Supreme, and Mito Caps. You'll find detailed information for each of these products, and the rationale for my recommendation of them, in the article "The Hammer Nutrition Daily Essentials Formula" (http://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledg ... .1253.html).

Another good article regarding supplementation is "Supplementation - A Necessity for Athletes" (http://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledg ... ge-section). At the end of this article what I've done is place each of the supplements in categories: Daily Essential, Very Important, Important, and Specific Support. By placing the supplements in these various categories what I've (hopefully) done is let athletes know "here is where I think you should start supplement-wise, here is what you should take next, assuming you want to beef up your supplement program, and so on."

As far as fueling is concerned, the article "The Hammer Nutrition Fuels - What they are and how to use them" (http://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledg ... ge-section) covers the various fuels - when to use them, how much to use them, and more - in more detail.
I think this article will very much help determine which fueling products she'll want to use in her training and racing.

Lastly, while I haven't visited the website too often, from what I understand (and from what little I've seen) the Beginner Triathlete website (http://www.beginnertriathlete.com) seems to be a good source of information for those just getting started in triathlons. Your wife might want to take a look at that site and see if the information in there meets her needs.

I hope this helps, Joe!

Sincerely -

Steve
