How to spare muscle glycogen stores?
How do we spare muscle glycogen stores on 3 hour rides. I"m trying to have a really strong last 30 minutes in a 3-4 hour ride. Really want to lay down the hammer at the end.
Any tips?

Re: How to spare muscle glycogen stores?
The best ways I know of to maximize muscle glycogen utilization is to:
(A) Not eat too close to the start of your workout or race. We discuss this in detail in the article "How to Properly Fuel Prior to Workouts & Races" (http://www.hammernutrition.com/knowledg ... .1279.html), and I can tell you that if you apply these principles in your workouts and races, you will see a noticeably positive difference.
(B) Warm up gently before the event and don't go out too hard right from the get-go. Going out too fast will only deplete glycogen stores rapidly as well as the endogenous enzymes that are involved in energy production.
I hope this helps.
Sincerely -
Steve
