Trapezius knot

Trapezius knot

Postby UltraRob » Fri Jun 04, 2010 1:19 pm

I have a giant knot in my shoulder that I think is in the trapezius muscle. It's causing pain in my neck up into my head.

Will the massage or active recovery mode help it? What pad placement should I use?

Hi Rob,

Either AR or Massage would help with this by loosening up the tight muscles and stimulating blood flow to the area. AR has the added benefit of endorphin release, which will help to temporarily relive pain or discomfort. As for pad placement, use the Trapezius placement on the following document:

If this does not address the pain, feel free to use any other pad placements you see on the above link that will reach the problem area. For intensity just stay within your comfort level. As the muscle warms up and blood flow increases it will be much more comfortable to increase the intensity. You want decent twitching to stimulate blood flow, but it should not be uncomfortable.

Let me know how it goes, and if you have any additional questions.

Regards,

Jason
